Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Onsgard (nee Blackburn), 57, of Elgin and formerly of Chicago passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Swedish Covenant Hospital. .
Born in Evanston, Kathy grew up in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood surrounded by a tight-knit group of lifelong friends. A devout Catholic who was proud of her Irish heritage and Chicago roots, she attended Queen of Angels Elementary School and St. Scholastica Academy.
Kathy was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan who attended her first game when she was just six-weeks old, and finally witnessed a World Series miracle in 2016. She met her husband of 31 years, Steve, after a Cubs game in 1987, and returned to Wrigley Field - her "happy place" - several times each season.
Kathy was fun loving with a great sense of humor, and had a gentle soul and warm heart. She enjoyed hosting get-togethers, dining and spending vacations with her large circle of friends, old and new. A loving mother and caretaker, she has one daughter, Kirsten, and spent many nights cuddling with her rescue dog, Josie.
She worked for 24 years at JPMorgan Chase in multiple roles in its Elgin and Chicago offices.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Steve; daughter, Kirsten; brothers Harold, Paul and Tom; nieces Lori and Nichole; and nephew Shane. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Martha; brother, James; and brother-in-law, Owen.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are appreciated.
